Faith lived out, Monday to Saturday.

Mass is our heartbeat, but parish life is the whole week: playgroups and morning teas, visits to the sick, food for families doing it tough, and a warm welcome for those newly arrived. Everything here is free and open to all.

Children & families

Little ones belong here.

Families with young children are not just tolerated at St Joseph's — they are the future of the parish, and we plan around them.

  • Playgroup — a relaxed weekly morning for under-fives and their carers; toys, songs, and coffee for the grown-ups
  • Children's Liturgy of the Word — during the 9:00 am Sunday Family Mass, children hear the Gospel at their level
  • Sacramental Preparation — First Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation, walking beside families step by step
  • St Joseph's Primary School — a close partnership between parish and school families

Community & welcome

A place to belong.

Loneliness is the quiet ache of our suburb. These gatherings exist so that nobody in Brunswick West has to feel invisible.

  • Senior Morning Teas — good tea, better company, and the best scones north of the city
  • Youth Ministry — a space for young people to ask real questions and find real friendship
  • Migrant Welcome — practical help and genuine friendship for newly arrived families, continuing a century-old parish tradition
  • Parish Choir — new voices always welcome at the 10:30 am Solemn Mass

Outreach & care

Love made practical.

Faith that stays inside the church walls isn't doing its job. Through our St Vincent de Paul Conference and parish ministries, care goes out the door and into the neighbourhood.

  • Food relief & material aid — groceries and essentials for households doing it tough, no questions asked
  • Home visits — companionship and practical help for the elderly and housebound
  • Hospital chaplaincy & pastoral care — a presence at bedsides and in hard conversations
  • Refugee sponsorship — walking with sponsored families as they rebuild their lives

Working together

Stronger with our partners.

  1. St Vincent de Paul

Our parish Conference delivers food relief, material aid and home visitation across Brunswick West — powered entirely by volunteers and parish generosity.

  2. St Joseph's Primary School

Parish and school share one community: sacramental preparation, family Masses and a century of shared history on the same streets.

  3. CatholicCare Victoria

When needs go beyond what a parish can carry — counselling, family support, complex hardship — we walk alongside our partners at CatholicCare.
