One hundred and ten years of ordinary Sundays.
Since 1912, St Joseph's has stood on the corner of Hope and Melville Streets — its bluestone walls witnessing baptisms, weddings, funerals and the quiet, faithful rhythms that shape a community's life.

Built of bluestone, held together by people.
St Joseph's was founded in 1912 to serve the working families of Brunswick West — labourers, tradespeople, new arrivals making a life in a young suburb. The church they built was bluestone: solid, unpretentious, enduring.
Generations have passed through its doors. Waves of migration — Italian, Vietnamese, African, and many more — have each left their mark on the parish, until today's congregation reflects the whole world in a single suburb.
What has not changed is the heart of it: Mass celebrated well, the sacraments offered generously, and neighbours cared for quietly — especially those doing it toughest.
A parish for everyone.
Our doors open wide — to the lifelong parishioner and the curious stranger alike. These are the people we are especially honoured to serve.
Families & children
From playgroup to sacramental preparation to our partnership with St Joseph's Primary School — faith that grows up with your kids, and a community around your family.
Seniors & the housebound
Morning teas, home visits and hospital chaplaincy — nobody in our parish grows old alone or forgotten. If you or someone you love can't get to Mass, we will come to you.
Migrants, refugees & new arrivals
Brunswick West has always been a suburb of new beginnings. Our migrant welcome and refugee sponsorship help newly arrived families find their feet — and their people.
